This Makes Me Smile
Did you grow up reading and loving the Curious George books by H. A. Rey like I did? Curious George got into and out of more interesting scrapes with the eventual assistance of the Man With the Yellow Hat, and to me he symbolized enthusiasm, curiosity, and courage. I have a bright yellow bike jersey with Curious George on the front, and once, while on a bike trip in China, it appeared that a water buffalo was chasing me down the road. My friends joked that the water buffalo wanted the monkey, and that I had never pedaled faster. In reality, the buffalo pulled up short as soon as it got to a pile of tasty greens alongside the road, but it seemed like a classic Curious George adventure.
I was reminded of Curious George when I got my daily “Moment of Happiness” quote from Gretchen Rubin of the Happiness Project a few days ago. I always enjoy reading Gretchen’s brief quotes, but this one brought a special smile to my face, and got my day off to a great start:
“Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble. George promised to be good. But it is easy for little monkeys to forget.”
-H.A. Rey, Curious George
