Keeping Faith With Your Goals

I fell off the blogging wagon over the last two weeks, and resolved that I would resume regular blogging once April rolled around.  It seemed a bad omen to resume on April Fool’s Day, but there’s no reason not to post today.

I generally like to blog – it helps me think about what I care about, keeps me motivated to scan the news each day for interesting topics and current events, and I enjoy writing in small doses.  And of course, from a mercenary standpoint, my marketing coach tells me that blogging is an important way to allow potential and current clients to get a feel for who am I and how I see the world.

So what accounts for my failure to not blog for more than two weeks?  Certainly schedule pressure is a factor, as happily, I am very busy with my work.  But that’s not the only reason.  I also fell out of my routine, and didn’t draft a blog post before noon each day.  Habits are often context-dependent, and I know that as a morning person of long standing, it’s best that I get my most important tasks done before noon.

I thought about whether my lapse in blogging means that I really don’t want to do it anymore, and concluded that’s not the case, it was merely a temporary situation.  Having recommitted to regular blogging frequency, it’s now up to me to create an accountability mechanism that will give me added incentive to keep up my posts.  I’ve told my Master Mind group members that I intend to blog 2 -3 times a week, and I will be reporting back to them on my progress against this goal.  If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know about my progress as well.

Falling short of a goal happens to all of us from time to time.  What do you do to get yourself back on track when you’ve stopped working towards a goal that you’ve set for yourself?
